We had an appointment with Kevin's orthopedic doctor on July 6, 2018. Everything looked good from his February surgery and we got the go ahead to switch him from the solid brace to the blue hinged brace. I was anticipating this and was anxious to get him in the hinged brace. I called the orthotist office from the orthopedic parking lot and got an appointment the next week to make adjustments to the hinged brace that Kevin had worn for a short amount of time before his hip surgery. Getting Kevin fitted into this hinged brace ended up being a lot more challenging than we expected. We had many many return trips to the orthotist to help us get the hinged brace and new shoes to fit properly. In August, we were still messing around with the hinged brace and Kevin got a blister on the bottom of his big toe...kind of an odd place...which kind of stumped us all. The brace we were adjusting was over a year old and hadn't been worn for about a year so we decided to start over and get him fitted for a new hinged brace. During this time, Kevin also had a growth spurt that threw another wrench into all these adjustments and his left shoe had to be adjusted again to create the correct height between his legs. We began this in July and we finally stopped going to the orthotist by the end of October. Overall I feel Kevin's getting stronger and better balance which helps his walking.
