Washington D.C. - May 26, 2017

Despite all my reservations about going to Washington D.C. I am glad we went because we had a perfect day for it and everything worked out well. Jon had been pretty adamant about taking a day to stop in Washington D.C. when he discovered it was on the way to our family vacation in the Outer Banks. I on the other hand worried about the logistics like keeping Kevin's week's worth of pre-cooked food frozen in a hot car while we spent the day sight seeing. But the weather was perfect in the low 70's and Kevin's food was still covered in ice at the end of the day. A few days before our trip I had back pain that brought on new worries. But I walked the 8+ miles that day with a few breaks and Jon pushed Kevin in the stroller with a back pack that weighed so much that before we could get Kevin out we had to take it off so the stroller wouldn't flip. Oh I forgot to mention this was on Friday of Memorial day weekend! I've heard about the traffic around D.C. and was prepared for our day to be a bust and that we would end up at the hotel early. We arrived about noon and got stopped in some traffic but Jon soon realized all of the traffic was turning left to go to Arlington Cemetery and we were turning right. Both of us were amazed that he easily found a place to park. So after I packed the big backpack we set off to do some sightseeing. By the time we made it to the Air and Space Museum, I knew I wouldn't be able to walk back to the car without having a break from walking. Luckily I went into the museum because I would have missed how excited Kevin was to be there. He was practically jumping out of the stroller to walk all over that museum with Jon...while I sat with the stroller.
